It isn’t often I find myself awe struck by a celebrity. I have met my fair share, rubbed shoulders with musicians, shared a beer with poets and writers (don’t ask), have shared the stage with NHL stars and have been humbled by introductions to the likes of Leeza Gibbons, John MacKey, and of course, the Dalai Lama Center.
Yet, today…I got giddy, yes, giddy, when my email popped up and I saw ‘Ellen DeGeneres is now following you on Twitter’. Ellen…yes, Ellen DeGeneres. Now normally that would not effect me as much but she is the biggest Twitter user out there, she is the ‘it’ girl or should I say the ‘twit’ girl (sorry, Ellen, if the shoe fits). Ellen DeGeneres has managed to acquire over three and a half million followers…that deserves a title, or at least a celebratory drink.
But why I am awe struck is that Ellen isn’t proclaiming she has the next MLM business of the day, or isn’t going to secure my six digit a year income through some marketing secret. Ellen is Ellen…she has an amazing show, has traversed down some pretty slippery slopes in her career and life in general, and is utilizing her success to create actionable opportunities for others, to advocate on behalf of organizations and individuals that share her values.
And at the end of the day, isn’t that the power of social media? Look at the recent 350.org initiative, it is about like minded individuals coming together to effect change.
Today I had the amazing opportunity to talk to Emmanuel Vaughn-Lee from The Global Oneness Project; we have created a collaborative opportunity for The Life On Purpose Network to distribute their amazing cause driven video content. Over the next few weeks we will be releasing some of the most amazing inspiring, engaging stories you will ever have the opportunity to watch. And without a doubt, you will be effected…and through The Life On Purpose Network, you can effect change, you can connect with change.
What Ellen has done for animal rights, for LGBT rights…to effect humanity in a positive, inspiring way through her own use of social media, aka her television show, gives the rest of us hope that we, too, can effect change…
I haven’t written a blog for a while, I thought I had lost my passion, I was truly floundering for a sense of belonging, a sense that I was making a difference…that we, here at Pinc were effecting change.
Today, sad but true…’Ellen DeGeneres is now following you on Twitter’ has renewed my spirit, and made me realize we just don’t know who we may be impacting through our work of good, our hearts, and our passions. It may seem ridiculous to some, but that simple acknowledgement goes a long long way for those of us slogging through the world of service.
Now if only I could scoop a couple tickets to her show, now THAT would go beyond giddy!! I would even dance…and that isn’t a pretty sight, I assure you!!
