Blogs for the Nonprofit

At Pincgiving we get a lot of calls and questions about blogging for the nonprofit organization.  As a blogger myself, I can appreciate the time it takes to write a blog never mind think of topics, be strategic, measure results.

Britt Bravo from Big Vision Consulting has written a really informative yet simple blog 8 Ways Nonprofits can Use Blogs.

  1. Share your experience
  2. Share breaking news within your field
  3. Share the story behind your brand
  4. Share your community’s opinions
  5. Share notes and photos from the field
  6. Share organizational news as it happens
  7. Use it as your website

A lot of the examples Britt uses she has affiliations with but there are many more examples of nonprofits using blogs as a key strategy and medium to cultivate relationships with followers and donors.

A blog is no different than a newsletter, an article published in a magazine or newspaper, an advertisement. I have talked a lot of syndication and a blog is another means to attain syndication for your cause, or initiative.

A blog is easy to set up, I am using Wordpress.  Give it a go, try it out by writing a blog for your internal staff or volunteers to get your feet wet.  Soon enough, you will be writing blogs just as effectively as you write internal memos and government petitions!!
